GirlPlanet Conversations video series launches!

Updated: Feb 6, 2023

Stable Planet Alliance, in collaboration with Population Balance and GirlPlanet.Earth, has launched #GirlPlanetConversations, a new series of videos featuring young women from Haiti, Mexico, Hong Kong, and the Philippines on childfree choice: "Let's Talk About Population and Sustainability".

This series of short candid interviews with people from across the globe focus on the link between a sustainable population and its impacts on biodiversity, human rights, animal protection and environmental sustainability.

In our first episode, Monique Obligación, an Environmental Educator from Manila, Philippines, discusses her decision to forgo having children to address global warming, noting the carbon footprint of each additional human being on the planet. She and her partner are committed urban gardeners, composters, and reuse advocates who practice a Zero Waste lifestyle.

The second episode features Williane Tomas, on her choice to be childfree for her own professional impact and for the planet. Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, she has lived in the United States since college. With degrees in Political Science and Nursing, she has volunteered with Doctors Without Borders and the Association of Haitian Women in Boston, providing family-planning education and support to disadvantaged women.

In the third episode of the series we meet Vincie Ho, Executive Director of Rise Travel Institute, a non-profit for sustainable and ethical travel and education. Born in Hong Kong, now living in the United States, Vincie discusses her decision to be childfree through the lens of overdevelopment and a quest for greater reach as a environmental advocate.

Suhei Eddy is an Environmental Educator born in Mexico City, who worked with Amigos de Sian Ka'an, one of the largest environmental NGOs in Mexico, and CONAF, the National Forest Corporation of Chile. Witnessing how overpopulation impacts environmental losses, she discusses her decision to be childfree as the most effective way to address global warming.

Population Balance, leads from their tagline, "Shrink Toward Abundance," envisioning a future where our human footprint is in balance with life on Earth, enabling all species to thrive. They offer education and solutions to address the impacts of human overpopulation and overconsumption on the planet, people, and animals, including The Overpopulation Podcast series.

GirlPlanet.Earth provides a global platform for girls and women to openly discuss human population, hyper-consumption and climate change, and share stories and solutions. We invite you to share your story. Explore here to share!
