Elizabeth Essien

Dr Lizzy Andrew-Essien is a professor of systems ecology at the University of Calabar, Nigeria, working on the intersections between ecological stability, increasing industrialization in Nigeria and globally. She is deeply interested in how social and industrial processes can facilitate economic growth, infrastructure development, and urbanization, which can all improve living standards and quality of life, but can also increase the ecological exploitation of resources, which cause emissions to rise alongside per capita carbon footprints, oftentimes, faster than ecosystems can regenerate.
