Cécile Ndjebet

Cécile Ndjebet is president and founder of REFACOF, the African Women's Network for Community Forest Management. Agronomist, forester, gender advocate and women’s leadership trainer and adviser, she has been awarded the Wangari Maathai Forest Champions Award, the UN Champion of the Earth and Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity. She holds a M.Sc. degree in social forestry from Wageningen Agricultural University and is completing a PhD on women’s access to land in coastal Cameroon from the Central Africa Catholic University. Cécile has 34 years of climate, gender, land tenure, REDD+ and climate adaptation field experience. She has worked in the Cameroonian government, founded the national NGO Cameroon Ecology in 2000, and co-founded REFACOF  President and co-founder of the African Women’s Network for Community Management of Forests (REFACOF)in 2009 to promote women’s rights in Africa and help shape policies and practices improving women’s land and forest tenure.
